Zig Zag Recall Game: Step One

What is the zigzag game?

This recall game gets its name from you zigzagging backwards and forwards in different directions as you play.

How to play

1. Put a piece of food on the floor by your feet
2. Move away behind your puppy as they eat
3. As their head comes up, call your recall cue (such as "come")
4. When they reach you, pop another piece of food down by your feet
5. Repeat, zigzagging away in a different direction each time

Start with small distances, then gradually increase the gap between the food and the distance you're calling your puppy from.

A useful tip

Even if your puppy is already moving towards you, keep saying your recall cue anyway. This helps them learn that the movement towards you itself means "come," reinforcing the association every time.
